My artist book series, Alice in Wonderland uses the physical structure of the book to explore the disorienting world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. First created in 2017 using a meander fold, the project functions as a series of unique variants rather than a traditional edition.
While the core story and text remain constant, each piece is a distinct interpretation. I intentionally vary the materials, illustrations, and paper cutouts for every book. The 2022 version, for example, is a four-sided cube in gray and red paper, with quotes like “We’re all quite mad here” represented by a hat cutout. A previous version used a teapot for the same phrase. This process allows the physical form—the folds, the cube structure, the cellophane windows—to continuously re-examine the familiar madness of Wonderland.
